Hair texture guide

Know your texture.

Barbers use a simple 1 to 4 scale, from straight to tightly coiled. It tells us which guard, which tool and how often you'll want to come back.

We sort by texture, not by who you are. Plenty of people have more than one texture on one head: straighter at the nape, curlier on top. Tell us how you wear it and we'll work with what grows.

    Dre Coleman opened the shop in 2009 with one chair, a borrowed mirror and the clients who followed him from his uncle's shop down the street.

    Seventeen years later it's three chairs, a chess board by the window and a Saturday crowd that comes as much for the conversation as the cut. Kids get their first haircut here and come back with their own kids.

    The shop's roots are in Black barbering, and everybody's welcome in every chair. Bring your texture, your photo from Instagram, or just "same as last time."
